Dahmer was born to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer on May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dahmer appeared to be a cheerful child who loved regular toddler activities. It wasn’t until he was six years old, after undergoing hernia surgery, that his demeanor shifted from a joyous gregarious child to a recluse who was uncommunicative and reclusive. His facial expressions changed from charming, youthful smiles to a blank, soulless glare, which he wore for the rest of his life.
The Dahmers relocated to Bath, Ohio in 1966. After the transfer, Dahmer’s insecurities worsened, and his shyness hindered him from establishing many friends. Dahmer was busy gathering road kill, stripping the animal carcasses, and conserving the bones while his peers were occupied listening to the latest songs.
Other free time was spent alone, deep into his fantasy. His non-confrontational approach with his parents was regarded as an asset, but it was his apathy toward the real world that made him appear docile.
On November 28, 1994, Dahmer and convict Jesse Anderson was beaten to death in the prison gym by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while on a labor detail. Anderson was incarcerated for the death of his wife, while Scarver was a schizophrenic convicted of first-degree murder. The guards left the three alone for 20 minutes for unknown reasons. When they returned, Anderson was dead and Dahmer was dying from serious head damage. Dahmer died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
